Decluttering and it Feels so Good!

clutter

Yes, I sang that title in my head as I typed it. What can I say? I've been baby stepping the past few months, getting some clutter out of our house in drips and drabs. Today was my day off and I stepped up the game a bit. I think the reason that I was able to get so much done has a lot to do with having a chiropractic adjustment yesterday. Now that I feel better, it's a lot easier to do stuff. I am looking forward to feeling increased health as we continue going there.

I worked on the basement today. I found out that there was an opportunity to start working from home for my job, and I was on the waiting list, so I decided I'd better get it cleared out so that I can have an office. It was a good thing that I got started in earnest today because I found out that I'm no longer on the waiting list. I'm going to get to work from home! Yay!

I had such a productive decluttering day today. Our empty aquarium and stand have been freecycled as has a box of crafting supplies that I had to admit that I was never going to get to. We took 3 boxes of stuff to be donated and set aside some of the old baby stuff for my niece. It feels so good to let this clutter go. A huge weight off my shoulders. :)

Baby Steps...Big Results!

You would think that I would learn by now that baby steps aren't big, but they have big results. The dust in my bathroom was bugging me. Cobwebs and dust had settled along the door frame and looked just gross. It bugged me, but I didn't actually do anything about it until today. I got out my Flylady dusters (they've got purple ostrich feathers, so pretty!) and dusted the whole bathroom. It took me under two minutes. Seriously. I let it sit there and bug me and it took almost no time to change it--and that includes "blessing the world" by shaking my duster outside to clean it out.

It's funny how in my mind these jobs can seem so huge, but if I just do something about it, instead of letting it fester, it would be done and I could be on to something else.

So, now that I've had my a-ha moment, what am I going to do about it? Well, first I'm going to try to tackle things rather then let them build up and bug me. And I'm going to try to take an extra baby step every day to address some of the small things around my house whether it is picking up some paper and putting it in the recycling or dusting a room or what have you. If it's this easy to make a big difference, imagine what it will be like when I start to get serious about making each baby step!

I wonder, is this a depression thing? Am I simply overwhelmed and can only see the big picture? Hmmm....rather than sit and muse about it, I'm going to go take a couple more baby steps. Wish me luck!

Getting back to it again...

I've had a busy week taking my little one around to all sorts of programs during the day. Thankfully I've had a few days off of work and a vehicle at my disposal, so it's worked otu well.

I'm getting back to the organizing, slowly but surely. I've given away some things on freecycle this week. I really love this as it allows me to find homes for things that I haven't a use for but someone else might. The biggest thing to go this week? Our old playpen--the old style that only folds in half and is really big. That has cleared up a lot of room in my basement. We also had two boxes of donations picked up by Cerebral Palsy today. Of course, after the driver was gone, I realized I had a third box as well. We regularly receive calls from Canadian Diabetes, Cerebral Palsy and Community Living and I say yes to all of them. It's a good way for me to make sure that I am decluttering and I don't even have to take it anywhere! The girls have both out grown a lot of clothes over the last few months, so boxes fill up pretty quickly here.

I even cleaned out my kitchen sink this week. It's not shining yet, but it's mostly empty, so I can live with that. I'm trying to keep on top of the dishes, but dinner is made and eaten while I'm at work. The last thing I want to do when I get home is clean up the kitchen. sigh...
